Every now and then we stand before the choice of buying new or using old products. When being raised up we ain’t always taught to think sustainable. Even if you understand the importance of not throwing away working stuff and to be strict in what you buy it ain’t always that easy to work that way of thinking into your everyday life. And belive it or not…! Even though I have a green heart, the same goes for me.
This conflict between what you believe in and what ideas you are brought up with, hits me everytime I am to buy something new. The last couple of weeks I have thought a lot about this because I need a computer with a working graphic card, for some video rendering. At home, I have had a four year old non-working computer standing at home for a couple of years. I have always liked the feeling of buying something new - especially computers. It’s new hardware and the system is all clean and working. But that feeling really only exists a couple of weeks until my new harddrive is filled with unnecessary files and dust inside.
When a computer breakes down it is often one of many parts that is faulty, but because it’s hard to find out which part, it’s an easy option to just buy new, if you have the money. This time, however, I instead of buying everything new only bought a new motherboard (the faulty part) and a processor that fits (you can’t put any processor on any motherboard – hi-tech stuff, you know). The computer isn’t totally new now, just repaired, and I may miss out on the feeling new things bring, but instead I will have the never ending feeling that I made my buy a lot more sustainable and with just slightly less power under the hood. Took a little more time before I got the computer working but on the other hand it was also cheaper.

Christmas is over and we are now two days into the year of 2008. 2007 was kind of a crappy year from my point of view, but all bad things come to an end. This year is when “it all” will happen (kind of what I though last year… ehr) and compared to last year things can only get better! Something that can be interesting to you, is that I got an electric bass for christmas present. The old one I had wasn’t really healthy on the E-string so I had to borrow a friends bass when recording. It’s second hand, also, which makes me like it even more. I belive that the bass lines will get more advanced, now when I can practice between recordings and so make the songs a little more interesting. So far one new song has been created thanks to this new present and I love it!

As you may have seen the logo has now been changed to a less cartoony one. The site is also ready but I have to take a second look at it before I can be absolutely sure about it. What do YOU think about the new logo?

This night I’ve been working on a Raven Nation site. I’ve made a couple of versions before this one, but this time I’m going for a simple layout with only the most necessary stuff on it. The Raven Nation logo is also on it’s way to change. Perhaps you’ll be able to see the result soon!

It was the fire-wire cord that was the problem. It was probably damaged some how but I replaced it today and now things are as they should be.
Tip of the day: Do not by a retractable cord, by a normal one.

My new external harddrive doesn’t work with firewire… USB works but I need the power of firewire for making music and film. I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4 plus and I bought a new firewire cable with 6 pin to 4 pin because the one I got with the drive was 6/6. The computer finds the drive but doesn’t dispaly it in ‘My computer’. As I understand there shouldn’t be a problem with the connection because I have a external power supply to the drive. Hardware… Now I don’t know if it’s my Dell Inspiron 6400, the cable or the harddrive that is the problem. Do you have an idea, perhaps?

Today I finally got my external harddrive and new optical drive. It’s a good thing for everyone who want to listen to my songs.

Well… there haven’t been to much activity here for a while (again). Why is that? To sum up: Got in love, got an emotional brake down, got the kissing disease, passed out for three weeks and recovered. And here we are now. It has been a frustrating period but it has resulted in a couple of new songs and kind of a new style. Now… the world likes to work against me so I have hardware problems and my throat is a mess so I am having a hard time to sing. But I have ordered a new optical drive and some day I should be ok in the throat too, so some time soon this project will get on…

Yesterday I finally discovered what I can do to gain control over my computer again. It has been standing in the last functioning position for weeks which – together with love and the fact that I’ve been working 24-7 – is the reason why not much has happened here. The solution seems to have something to do with my dvd drive. Depending on if it is ejected, I push it in or just have it closed the computer decides if it wants to boot or not. I’m gonna call Dell on monday (my first free week day in weeks!) and see if they have a permanent solution to all this. And then hopefully the creativity will overflow and I will write here more often.

My precious computer (named JED after the Grandaddy robot) has begun to behave strange. It isn’t really that unusual for computers in my life to do that after a couple of years (one day I will tell you about my HAL computer, and you’ll understand), but this computer contains all the Raven Nation stuff, my work and other interests so it would be a huge problem if it went bye bye. Well, yesterday I suddenly couldn’t start the JED. When I pushed the start button the power light just flashed but nothing else happened. Later on I tried again, with the same result. Then even later on I tried one last time and then it worked again. I wasn’t sure why. Today the same thing happened, but this time when I moved the computer when it was on. I cried some (not really, but I could have) and shook the damn thing. And of course it worked after that. I have stumbled upon quite a few weird computer solutions during my life, but this was the strangest one so far. But as they perhaps say somewhere - a solution is always a solution.
